7th Janaury 2010 Quiz night - the club is holding a quiz night on Saturday 30th January at the Maurice Rowson Hall, cost is £5 per person with teams of up to 6 persons, please contact either Andrew Goldsmith or Bob Waters to book a table or e-mail the club. AGM - with the resignation of Ann Summerland after 40+ years of service to the club, Sheila Goldsmith was elected as the new secretary, contact details are on the contact us page. Peggy McLeod resigned as President and has invited Bob Waters to succeed her which he has agreed to do 1st October 2009 Quiz night - the club is holding a quiz night on Saturday 24th October at the Maurice rowson Hall, cost is £5 per person with teams of up to 6 persons, please contact either Andrew goldsmith or Bob Waters to book a table or e-mail the club. Club championships finals - the finals of the club championships were played on 6th September, In the mens singls Richard Waters beat Stuart Jones for the third year running, the score was 6-3, 6-2; in the Ladies Singles Sandra Hume retained the cup beating Alison Clarke 7-5, 6-2. The men's plate was won by Luke cook who beat jon Goldsmith 6-4, 6-2. The mens doubles was won by Andrew and Chris McLeod who beat Richard Waters and Cyril Potter 6-3,6-2 and the mixed doubles cup went to Sandra Hume and Jon Hayden. After the conclusion of the matches retiring President Peggy McLeod presented the trophies before she was presented with a club sweatshirt as a token of thanks. The ladies doubles was postponed due to one of the participants being ill on the day. Last of the Grass - 2 weeks earlier the club played it's last ever grass tournament, 8 players took part and appropriately it was bob Waters who won the tournament on the courts he has tended for many years. The grass courts will shortly be replaced by two new hard courts, and at the same time it is planned to mark at least one court for netball with the intention of forming a netball section at the club, if you areinterested in playing netball please e-mail the club at the address on the contacts page. photos of both of the above tournaments are in the photograph section , click here to view them
4th August 2009 Next club tournament - is on Sunday (9th August) at 2pm, playing for the chairman's Cup (over 40s) and the Under 40s cup for those 40 and under, an entry sheet is on the club noticeboard
14th May 2009 MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FORM - I have now added a new page with membership information and prices here as well as a downloadable membership application form here Murder Mystery Evening!: the murder - mystery evening takes place on Saturday , we still have about 25 tickets available but only one full table of 8 is still available at present, contact myself by e-mail or the secretary if you would like one of the remaining tickets 12th May 2009 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP DRAWS- The draws for this years club championships were made on Sunday following the tournament that afternoon,the draws are available on the calendar page - click here or above to link to that page. We have already played two tournaments this year, firstly we played the Vice-President's Cup on 25th April with 8 members participating. The result went right down to the final group of games and Richard Waters just pipped Sandra Hume to win the event. Then , last Sunday - 10th May we played the Bernard Brooks Cup which was a singles event for gentlemen members. The format was a short set round robin with top 2 playing the final and Richard Waters and Stuart Jones contested the single set final with Richard winning 6-3. The next event is the Rowson Jubilee Bowl on Friday 19th June which will be a whist drive tournament for all members 30th March 2009 LEAGUE FIXTURES - The club's league fixtures are now available on the website , click here to view. Please not that the courts will not be available for general play on most wednesdays between 29th April and 30th July 25th March 2009 COACHING - we are currently trying to arrange a junior coaching course to commence late spring/eary summer , if you would be interested in this please e-mail me or contact the secretary Murder Mystery Evening!: Our next event ( social or otherwise) is a Murder Mystery Evening at the Maurice Rowson Hall, Gosfield on Saturday 16th May, doors open 7pm, which for one evening only will become the famous Footlight's Theatre in the town of Ambleton for a production of 'A stab in the Dark'. The evening promises to be full of entertainment as the audience try to solve the murder of Ralph williams,the play director. Bookings need to be made in advance to either Andrew Goldsmith, Bob Waters or Ann Summerland, you can contact me by e-mail initially if you wish ( use the link at the bottom of the home page). Seats cost £12.50 per person which includes a ploughman's supper and there will be 8 places per table , you can either book a complete table or individual places and we will seat you on a table with spaces available. The mystery is presented in the form of a 3 act play which will be presented by Coggeshall Amateur Theatrical Society. Places are limited to 96 persons COMPETITION CALENDAR - I have also prepared the competition calendar for 2009 and a downloadable copy is available by clicking here. 1st February 2009 QUIZ EVENING: The quiz evening took place on Saturday with over 90 people making up 17 teams to participate.The winners were the Hustlers who finished on 106 points out of a possible 115, 9 points ahead of The Choristers and Wily Whybrows who both scored 97 only 1/2 point ahead of Mixed Bunch who did very well considering that they only had 3 in their team As we are into a new year I have started a new News page to make it quicker opening, last year's news page is still available by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page below
